The Singapore Polo Club started the 2013 season with a bang with the Estancia Jagorawi Cup from 23-24 March. Estancia Jagorawi, a polo real estate development near Jakarta Indonesia, launched its project in the prestigious Singapore Polo Club supported by LaMartina and Hotel Alvear Palace.
The Estancia Jagorawi Cup was however only the beginning. The 127-year-old Club subsequently announced a cable broadcast deal with ESPN StarSports which will see 7 of the Club’s tournaments on air in a program called ‘The Polo Series’ to over 110 million homes across Asia starting with the Estancia Jagorawi Cup which was broadcast between 20 and 24 April. This makes the Club one of the few, if not the only Club in the world, to have substantially its whole polo calendar televised to a large audience.
At the same time, the Singapore Polo Club announced a new polo initiative called the Singapore Triple Crown Series. Consisting of the Diplomats Cup (25-28 April), the International ProAm (30th May-2 June) and the Singapore Open (12-16 June), this series of tournaments asks members to enter teams in each of these events and a possible winner of all 3 tournaments could call itself the first holder of the Singapore Triple Crown Series.
Having already played the Estancia Jagorawi Cup to great success, the next event was the inaugural Diplomats Cup 2013, where 6 teams between 4-6 goals played from 25 to 28 April and where named as continents. On the final day of the tournament, the Ambassadors of 16 different countries attended to cheer for their respective continents. Team EUROPE came first in a convincing win over team AFRICA.
The Diplomats Cup was recorded also by ESPN StarSports and will be broadcast in the last week of May prior to the next event in the Triple Crown Series, which will be the International ProAm from 30th May until 2 June.
The Singapore Polo Club has attracted a large range of new corporate and media sponsors which include TATA Communications, Royal Salute, Estancia Jagorawi, Piper-Heidsieck, Opel, Stella Artois, Capitano, Bahureksa Polo Intl, StarSports, Prestige, livingpolo.com and LifeStyle Asia.
