How did you get started in polo?Colleen Newton (Mom): Well, polo came to us you could say. Orange County Polo Club built a polo arena at the Coto de Caza equestrian center where my daughter and I have horses. OC Polo had an exhibition game one Friday night and Kelli and I watched from the bleachers. It looked super fun and I had to try it! The polo club offered a 2 for 1 introductory lesson and I told my family all I want for Mother's Day is this lesson! My daughter was my plus 1 and after our first lesson we were hooked! I bought a lesson package from Heather (the club manager) and my daughter and I have been playing polo ever since. That was Mothers Day, 2010!Kelli Newton (Daughter): OC Polo moved to the Coto de Caza Equestrian Center in 2009. Mom and I were super excited to watch a Friday night polo match! We took a seat on the bleachers to watch a match and loved every minute of it! When OC Polo offered a 2 for 1 lesson I decided to buy it for my mom. Of course, I made her bring me as her plus one! We had our first lesson with Heather riding Snoopy and Selma. We were “hooked” literally! Now, 10 years later, we have 2 polo ponies at the club and haven’t stopped since. OC Polo is a part of our family and we are so thankful to be a part of this incredible polo family! Why do you think polo is a great Mother/Daughter activity? Click here to read more
